How sources and Utah crash data are used

The site uses official public sources where available and states when a dataset has limits that prevent a broader conclusion.

Crash data method

The 2022 through 2024 report queries UDOT's public Crash Locations layers and filters COMMERCIAL_MOTOR_VEH_INVOLVED to Y. Injury-or-fatal totals exclude No Injury/PDO. County and route tables group the same filtered records. Route tables exclude records with a blank route field.

Data limits

UDOT describes the service as de-identified crash-location data and notes that recent records can be delayed or corrected. The commercial motor vehicle field does not mean every record involved a tractor-trailer. Aggregate data cannot establish fault, liability, coverage, injury value, or the outcome of a particular claim.

Access and review date

The crash layers used for the report were accessed July 21, 2026. The summarized CSV is provided so readers can review the published totals without treating the summary as a substitute for the source layers.
